Omega AP English Language and Composition is a college-level course that focuses on writing (composition) and the effective use of language (rhetoric). Students will be required to write frequently and to read as writers. We will examine various non-fiction texts to analyze how the authors use language effectively and to gain an understanding of the world around us. The more we know, the more effectively we can support our arguments. As students develop as writers they will also begin to incorporate various techniques for effective writing into their own compositions.
Additionally, this course will align with Omega AP US History, allowing us to more closely study seminal US texts. In order to examine larger ideas throughout US History more holistically, the units in this course will align thematically with the chronological units in APUSH. Finally, as part of the Omega mission, I will encourage students to become more active participants in their communities and to use their voices and talents to help make this world a better place. |
